Arnold Chao grew up in Boulder, Colorado, where landscapes such as the Rocky Mountains and Mesa Verde inspired him to pursue visual art as early as preschool. Moving to California in '84, he honed his creative instincts in architecture, sculpture, mixed-media, and illustration; which eventually guided him to a fine art education at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Engaging in various mediums including color pencil, ceramics, photography, and painting, Chao earned a BFA with an emphasis in oil painting and BA in psychology in 1996. He's been an active exhibiting artist ever since and has shown his work in various venues in the San Francisco Bay Area. Focusing on abstract oil paintings, he has refined a distinct, visceral style. He also writes art blogs for Yahoo! Inc, curates the Flickr Nikon Stunning Gallery (a popular, online photography exhibit), and plays bass in the hip hip/down-tempo band JazzSnob.
Art helps me explore the cycle of change caused by time and technology. Adhering to patterns in natural and industrial environments, I create imagery evoking harmonization through terrestrial and submerged figments. My work celebrates the complexities of consciousness, where I find spirituality within interactions of subtle gradations and contours. The Mood Noise Series is my recent art project.
